Stainless Steel 316LVM Round Bar

SS 316LVM surgical steel is an electro-slag remelted (ESR) or vacuum arc remelted (VAR), low carbon, high nickel and molybdenum version of 316 stainless. The secondary premium melting step imparts improved cleanliness. The chemistry modifications are designed to maximize the corrosion resistance of this alloy and provide a ferrite free microstructure. The alloy is nonmagnetic even after severe cold forming operations. The 'VM' stands for "Vac Melt'.

Applications of 316LVM :

SS 316LVM material has been used for permanent implants for many years. The corrosion resistance in the annealed condition is good. Many studies for new alloys use 316LVM as a reference. This stainless steel has good ductility in the cold worked condition. Applications include: suture wire, orthopaedic cables, skin closure staples, catheters, stylets, bone pins and many small machined parts.

SS 316LVM is used for implant applications; hip stems, femoral heads, spinal systems, acetabular cups, intramedullary nails, bone screws, knee joints, and pins, bone and nail plates, internal fixation devices, dental implants, staples.

This grade is also used for cardiovascular applications: guide wires, cardiac stents and for surgical instruments and tools; blood lancets, stylets, trocars.
